Thulir is an Indian Non-Governmental Organisation, focusing on rehabilitating the under-privileged
disabled and mentally-challenged by extending various social and humanitarian services.
It is a charitable Trust - registered under Indian Trusts Act, 1882 (Regd. No.808/IV/03).
FOR THE UNDER-PRIVILEGED
Thulir's mission is to impact the lives of less-privileged children, enabling them to maximise their
potential and change their lives.
Thulir works primarily in the field of education, addressing formal education and also non-formal
education - by initiating school reform through our project partner.
DISABLED
A combination of povert, illiteracy, poor living conditions, genetics and lack of knowledge on prevention
and causes has also led to a higher than average number of disabled people in the villages. Disabled
people have traditionally been seen as a curse and a burden on society.
MENTALLY CHALLENGED
Mental Retardation is the worst handicap that affects the mankind. Over 2% of all new born babies are
are mentally retarded. Medical Science has not found any cure for this condition.
Mental sub-normalcy is not a medical problem exclusively. It is infact an overwhelmingly educational,
psychological and social deficiency. The treatment for the mentally sub-normal would be at the early
stage of a child to develop their IQ - up to the maximum extent possible.
In too many societies all over the world, children with mental retardation are considered a liability
to their families and burden on society. They are reliant on families and others with no opportunities
for special education or for acquiring adaptive skills for every day life.
To valiantly reverse this trend, Thulir School for Special Children was established in July 1999. In
the several years since its foundation, Thulir has achieved encouraging structured results - working with
scores of children. Through our structured training, several children have been rehabilitated and integrated
with mainstream.
Thulir has dedicated itself to take care of these special children and promote their well being.
