# 2 - EATING FROM THE SAME PLATE (SAHAN SAAPAADU)

During occassions like marriages, guests eat food from the same plate. Plates made specially for this purpose - big ones - are used. Usually 2 or 3 people sit together. Custom is observed by women of the town too. This practise is termed as Sahan Saapaadu.

# 1 - BRIDE GROOM LIVES IN BRIDE'S HOUSE AFTER MARRIAGE

Bride Grooms of Kayalpatnam - after marriage - move to Bride's house. This custom has been prevalent in Kayalpatnam for many years.

People who support this practice say this prevents abuse of the daughter-in-law by her in-laws. Bride is more comfortable staying with her parents.

Critics say it is an indirect dowry as some Grooms' households dictate construction of new houses, extravagant alterations of existing houses etc

This custom is followed in Kilakarai and Adhirampattinam too.
